ExtJS is just, ...how can i call it, ..HUGE!!!, which means taking time when loading your ext applications and in the other hand ExtJS has everything you need to find in the programming bucket: window, trees, toolbars, grids, forms, etc., etc. manipulation. It is easy to create even an online desktop.

These whole bunch of "outofthebox tools" is just amazing for starting to build our applications and get results real fast and even faster if you are a freak at Java because extjs makes things programmatic and Java-esque.

It is obvious, we all need to add beauty to our portal with the use of images, backgrounds, pngs....
We can have our photo gallery, but how can we make changes to our images??. It is also obvious!!, let's use Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop!!

..But what if we don't have the money to get the licence?. Here is when programs like picnik can help us!!, ..and yes it is FREE and ONLINE!!.

Today is a great day indeed!!, yes, my holidays starts today and the beach awaits!! :), ..i will try to keep posting during them, i will need a 3G connection which works perfectly at my android phone, and not so well at my laptop.

At any case, let's get our mind in today's topic. WYSIWYG HTML Editors which can be integrated in our developments and portals. Sooner or later you will need one for sure, so here you will find a list of the most used ones.

DOJO, JQUERY, SCRIPT.ACULO.US: Drag&Drop

There is one thing which sooner or later appears in our project..., we need to Drag&Drop elements. Well among the good thing about javscript frameworks, we have the drag&drop utilities!!, ..mostly all cover this feature, from Jquery to Script.aculo.us, some of them in a most powerfull which may the one belonging to Dojo (that is one reasons IBM uses it for dragging and dropping portlet on pages).

I was reviewing some code I wrote a while ago, and suddenly i realize that just today but one year ago I started using Script.aculo.us!!!. I Bet you all know about this javascript framework, ...am i Right??. It is based on Prototype, which I can say is the father of all javascript frameworks and has become part of the Core or Heart of all them.

DOJO: Dojo Will be bought by IBM???

Portal server, WebSphere® sMash, ....what's next??. ...well, next is that IBM helps Dojo celebrating events for example Yoav Rubin, who is a regular contributor of DojoCampus.org, working at IBM research Labs in Haifa made this event possible and helped organizing all details, next is that now IBM is coming up with a facebook-like apps enterprise oriented also based on dojo that will make competitors as sharepoint bite the dust, ... I had the privilage to check out a dem at IBM labs. ...and maybe next is a wedding between Dojo & IBM, ..sorry i meant IBM & Dojo.

Peter Velichkov has been digging into Javascript Frameworks scene trying to benchmark different frameworks with the following results:

  • Safari under Windows XP is really blazing fast
  • Mootools and Prototype JS do not work under Konqueror (KDE’s default browser)
  • Dojo performs great. If we take only these test into consideration it safe to say it is the fastest Javascript Framework
  • Linux browsers are relatively slower against their Windows versions
  • Prototype is insanly slow under Internet Explorer

ModalBox is a JavaScript technique for creating modern (Web 2.0-style) modal dialogs or even wizards (sequences of dialogs) without using conventional popups and page reloads. It's inspired by Mac OS X modal dialogs. I have integrated it in my "hoobie" development, a portal framework, and it works really neat and fine. The code is easy to read so it can be configured to your needs!!.
